What Are The Classifications or Types of Women’s Fragrances?

As of today, there are probably hundreds or even thousands of perfume varieties available from all over the world, but all these can still be categorized into a few different types of perfumes. Women’s fragrances, in particular, can be sorted into a few major classifications depending on the dominant ingredients and scents of each particular product. Even if you are not striving to be a fragrance expert, it would still be nice to familiarize yourself with the different types of perfume because this knowledge will make it easier for you to choose new scents that you like – or even to choose perfumes for yourself or maybe the important women in your life.

Green Fragrances

This category is made up of perfumes that contain natural and rather outdoorsy scents, like pines, herbs, barks or even some fruits and flowers. Green scents are generally very fresh and light, making them easy to wear for almost any occasion.

Citrus Fragrances

Women of all ages like citrus fragrances because of their freshness and vivacity. These types of perfume are perfect for summer because they work very well despite the warmth of the weather. Typical examples of citrus fragrances are lemon, mandarin oranges and grapefruit.

Floral Fragrances

Another favorite among women, floral scents are considered the quintessential women’s fragrance. They are very feminine, romantic and fresh, and are perfect to use anywhere and anytime.

Chypre Fragrances

One of the more distinguishable types of fragrances, chypre is not really as popular as the other categories. However, they do have a very distinct smell, like a combination of leather, moss and flowers. This are the perfect types of perfume for a woman who wants a pleasantly unique signature scent.

Oriental Fragrances

The trademark of oriental perfumes is in their spicy notes. They can evoke a sensual and romantic mood, which is why a lot of people like to wear them during evening dates and other romantic occasions.

On their own, oriental fragrances may be too overpowering for most people, which is why perfume manufacturers usually blend in some citrus notes to balance the fragrance. In fact, there are plenty of perfumes today that are actually a mixture of two or more of these different types of perfumes. When combined in the right proportions, the results can be amazingly fragrant, unique and very easy to wear.

So the next time you are out in the stores choosing a new fragrance, you might want to consider the different types of perfume before deciding on any particular product. Once you determine the type that defines you the best, it would be a good idea to choose a perfume that falls under that category.
